This training will focus on providing all the information an advocate would need to effectively have conversations with survivors about what HIV is and testing and treatment options. We will review the basics of HIV and how it’s transmitted, discuss HIV stigma and language, and provide information on the newest biomedical interventions and testing options. Resources will also be provided for further follow-up.
Jacob Dougherty is currently HIV Prevention Supervisor with the Communicable Disease Harm Reduction Section in the Division of Public Health at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. He has been working in the HIV field for over a decade, starting out at Diverse & Resilient in Milwaukee where he provided data and compliance support and helped start their HIV testing program. He provides training, technical assistance, and contract monitoring for agencies providing HIV testing and prevention services throughout Wisconsin.
