September 1, 2020 — Yesterday, leadership in the Legislature convened and adjourned without taking any action in response to Governor Evers calling a special session. The legislation included in the special session would address police violence and increase investment in communities affected by violent crime rather than increased funding for law enforcement. You can read more about the special session and the events of yesterday here. In the wake of yet another police shooting which left Jacob Blake paralyzed and his children traumatized, it is imperative that our elected leaders take action immediately. Anything else represents an abdication of their basic responsibilities as elected officials.
Please contact your state legislator today with the following message:
- Now is the time to take meaningful action to address police brutality and increase accountability and transparency.
- Creating a task force and waiting until next session to take up legislation is not a sufficient response.
- Systemic racism, including policy brutality, continues to have a devastating impact on black people in our state. We cannot afford to wait any longer for meaningful reform.
